weekenders
Good weekends, all around. From LACMA above, to
Pioneertown, below:
One of the cool things
about living here, and I this is not all limited to
LA, but you can drive 2 hours in almost any direction
and be in a completely different kind of place. You
go a little over 2 hours from LACMA (where we were
the weekend with artist and writer Matt Silady, who I am working
with on something that's very cool that I cannot
talk about right now) you'll be in Pioneertown,
which is in the Yucca Valley, on the way to Joshua
Tree.
Matt, Whit and I visited the new collection at BCAM and it was really fun to
see the new space. So MASSIVE...really too much
art to go into now, but it is a beautiful space
and it was fun to explore the new site. It's
always nice to actually get and GO to a museum,
and it was nice to get Matt's perspective on the
work as well. Great way to spend the day.
This past weekend was spent in Pioneertown, as I
mentioned, for friend Andrew's bachelor party. As you
might expect, it was a fun time, sufficiently random
and relaxing at the same time. Much bbq, much
music..great group of folks from all over the place
hanging out under an amazing night sky. It's always
amazing (and depressing, in a way) to get out of the
city and realize to see how much you are missing with
all the light pollution. Ended up taking a bit of
tour with some guys around the various towns; it's
amazing how much growth is happening out there, it's
pretty obvious that change is happening.
Otherwise, not much to report. I've been doing a lot
of writing in preparation for this conference in
Vegas, which in turn has been good prep for my
writing class that starts at the end of the month.
Very much battling against the feeling that I should
have some stories all ready to go...I don't, but
that's just gonna have to be okay...ugh. It's just
such an unknown, this class. Exciting but
intimidating at the same time.
all great, all good.
